Gymnasium, Gesamtschule or international school? A high-stakes decision, made with expertise.

At around age 10, Germany asks families to make a school choice with consequences that last for years. This decision is complex, the German school landscape in Frankfurt is diverse, and the stakes are real. I help you navigate it with a clear head, in English.

This decision is more complex than it looks from the outside

Germany’s secondary school system is structured very differently from most other countries. At the end of primary school, children are allocated to a school track: Gymnasium (leading to the Abitur university entrance qualification), Realschule (intermediate track) or Hauptschule. In Frankfurt, there are also Gesamtschulen (KGS or IGS) that combine all tracks under one roof, as well as a wide range of private, bilingual and specialist schools.
Getting this decision right requires both system knowledge and a grounded individual assessment of your child. That is what I offer.

Educational science expertise. No averages, no generic advice.

I do not advise based on the school recommendation alone. I look at the child: learning behaviour, motivation, resilience, social dynamics, interests and developmental potential. I combine this perspective with in-depth knowledge of Frankfurt’s secondary school landscape, which schools have which real profiles, who they admit, and what they actually deliver.
My background spans a Master’s degree in Educational Science, several years as an education planner at Frankfurt’s city education authority, and extensive practical experience as an educator across the full spectrum of Frankfurt’s education institutions.
The result is a recommendation that fits your child. Not a typical child. Your child, as they are now and as they are developing.

  • An independent assessment alongside the official school recommendation, with an honest comparison of where they align and where they diverge

  • A concrete transition plan including application timelines and the next steps to take
